Connecting to VPN - Windows

Connecting to L2TP VPN - Windows 10.

Who needs this:
If a person works from home then some services from the office may becomes unavailable while working from home.
Examples are: shared drives on the server (they always require a VPN to the office), other applications and uses – needs to be clarified with the main contact of the company or with us.

Connecting to the VPN:

Press on the “network” icon in the right down corner of your desktop:

Then find your “VPN“ in the list of the available networks and press “Connect”:

It can be named as simply “VPN” or “-Your name, Surname-” or “-Your company’s name-".

It will start connecting to the VPN and will (after several seconds) change to “Connected” instead.

After that it will say “Connected” – which means that the VPN is active and is ready for use.

From this point – the shared drives (and other applications) should automatically use the active VPN connection.

If you no longer need the VPN connection then you may press that “Disconnect” button and disconnect from the VPN. Which will mean that you are disconnecting from the office’s network. If you are using a single PC for work only, and it was a PC provided by a work company, then perhaps there is no reason to disconnect at all.

Things to keep in mind:

  •   After you restart the PC the VPN connection will automatically disconnect.
So, you will have to connect to the VPN each time you start the PC.

If there will be any errors when you are trying to connect to the VPN – let us know.
